Hidden ice inside an MRI magnet can interfere with cryogenic service and contribute to quench risk. Camera-guided inspection helps qualified engineers assess areas that may not be visible from the top of the magnet turret.
Where Does Ice Form?
In conventional liquid-helium MRI magnets, air and moisture entering the cryogenic service path can freeze around the filling area and internal components, including the Fixed Current Lead (FCL). Siemens Healthineers notes that ice buildup inside the turret can create thermal instability and lead to a quench.
What External Field Reports Show
In a Siemens Aera inspection reported by Artem Potiy, a camera revealed ice on the FCL that the standard inspection had missed. The author identified a potential quench risk during ramp-up. Another report described an iced Siemens MAGNETOM Avanto Fit that could not be refilled; after deep de-icing, it was filled, ramped, shimmed, and returned to operation.
Potiy’s related work also describes controlled warm-helium flow and camera-guided inspection using EmicoMedika tools. These external reports illustrate the inspection challenge and service approach; they are not Digit Systems projects or validation of our kit.
A Tool for Compatible MRI Systems
The Digit Systems Universal De-Icing Kit supports camera-guided inspection and controlled de-icing on compatible GE and Siemens MRI systems. It gives qualified service teams a way to observe internal conditions and assess the areas accessible with the appropriate model-specific setup.
Compatibility, access, and service requirements vary by magnet design and condition. Confirm the appropriate equipment and procedure before use; inspection and de-icing do not guarantee prevention of a quench or helium loss.
Contact Digit Systems to confirm compatibility and discuss the kit for your system.
